So much to see! For the past 6 months or so, I’ve been collecting ideas about places that I’d like to go and see in the USA. It quickly started to get overwhelming, so to keep track of it all, I’ve started entering them into a google map.
Many of the places are must-see sights, like national parks and monuments, historical sights, etc. But I ‘ve also got some less important sights, like restaurants that were recommended to someone, or a cute town that I saw in an article, etc. These are places that we may visit if we find ourselves in the area but probably won’t drive out of the way to get to them. Unless they have the world’s best cinnamon roll. That seems worth driving out of our way for!
As we make our map, I’m trying to chart a course so we can stay in pretty decent weather the whole time. I’m not too fond of the idea of being where it could be icy/snowy and having to lug a 20 ton paperweight around behind us, especially as noob RVers. If that happens, I picture a lot of white-knuckle driving and subsequentially talks of divorce. Phew!
We are waiting until after my family reunion at the end of July to start to our journey. And then the plan is to head north and slowly make our way through New Mexico and Colorado, which we already know are lovely in the summer! Our goal is to be in the line of the solar eclipse on August 21st, so probably somewhere near Nebraska. And then hit South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore and the Badlands National Park. Then we plan to go west towards Yellowstone. Then, it’s up in the air. I’ll need to sort it out as we go. If you have any recommendations, let me know!
